I was inspired by the cubist movement and a popular motif therein: the mackerel. It is a very striking fish in dark blue and iridescent white. Though the main colors I chose were grey and blue, one of my favorite color combinations is orange and blue so I thought I'd play with that a little. A cool palette usually could use a burst of a bright, hot hue. The silhouette was also taken from cubism; it is boxy but still displays the feminine form.
For the current "Spring" I decided to harken back to a good old standby, diaphanous peasant wear, and add the twist of tooled leather.I kept the pretty hues of purple, pink, and green and made sure they went well with rich red-brown leather. I was inspired by the works of John William Waterhouse whose pastoral landscapes created an air of whimsy.

With the fish influenced story board, you brought some fantastic print in to mix and match.
ReplyDeleteI really like your pre-fall Holy Mackerel story board. You have taken a lot of artistic inspiration and turned it into fun patterns and prints with unusual silhouettes. Great job!
ReplyDeleteoh wow these are totally you! i like your use of unusual inspiration (like the fish) to create your storyboards
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of mixing up prints together in an ensemble, so I'm definitely a fan of your Pre-Fall storyboard. Navy makes bright colors pop without being too harsh, so it's a great choice as the signature color of the collection!
ReplyDeleteLove them both. You did a really good job of finding non-fashion inspiration images.
ReplyDeleteSuggestion: flats could be smaller, they kind of take away from the theme and color scheming
I love the idea of taking inspiration from something so unexpected like a fish! The idea behind your mackerel board is great but I love the color palette on your shepherdess board so much that I think thats my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI really like your second storyboard, its very fresh and earthy.
ReplyDeleteThe fish on your first board was totally unexpected but very fun and interesting to have it as part for your inspiration, I think your color choice is great for both of your boards.
ReplyDeleteI really like the second board, because it flows very well. The color palette is very appropriate and I like how you included a sketch too. Solid idea.
ReplyDeleteI love both of your story boards-especially the first one. I never thought that cubism would be inspirational for spring but you've proved me wrong. Very good summaries that are very concise, also.
ReplyDeleteI love the silhouette of the second storyboard. The flowing drape reminds my of the spring flowers and it matches with the theme extremely well. The colors flow nicely and fit with the drape.
ReplyDeleteI like the first board the best, I like the silhouettes the best, they're minimalistic but interesting.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I feel like both stories are really inspiring and could make for successful designs, the Mackerel seems the most unique and fresh . And.. Cubism will definately lend itself to come interesting silhouettes!
